Helping Your Baby (and you) Sleep – Our Three Top Tips

Whether you have a newborn, or an infant that doesn’t sleep particularly well, implementing a simple bedtime routine can be helpful. Just a few steps can make evenings and night times a much more pleasant experience in your household, and can create some lovely one-to-one time with your child.

1. The difference between day and night

It’s helpful to teach your baby that night time is for sleeping and to give them environmental cues that it’s time for sleep. So during the day, let the light in, play games and involve them in hustle and bustle of your day. Then, as the evening closes in, turn the lights down low, pull the curtains and disconnect any technology that emits blue light. Keep a calm and quiet voice, and don’t play loud music or TV shows. Don’t play games with your baby and make them feel comfortable with settling down before putting them to bed.

2. A soothing warm bath

Bath time can be a calming and restorative time. Whether you’re doing a sponge bath or tub bath make sure the water is warm, not hot and keep up with the calming, quiet voice as you talk to baby in the bath.
