Whether you have a newborn, or an infant that doesn’t sleep particularly well, implementing a simple bedtime routine can be helpful. Just a few steps can make evenings and night times a much more pleasant experience in your household, and can create some lovely one-to-one time with your child.
1. The difference between day and night
It’s helpful to teach your baby that night time is for sleeping and to give them environmental cues that it’s time for sleep. So during the day, let the light in, play games and involve them in hustle and bustle of your day. Then, as the evening closes in, turn the lights down low, pull the curtains and disconnect any technology that emits blue light. Keep a calm and quiet voice, and don’t play loud music or TV shows. Don’t play games with your baby and make them feel comfortable with settling down before putting them to bed.
2. A soothing warm bath
Bath time can be a calming and restorative time. Whether you’re doing a sponge bath or tub bath make sure the water is warm, not hot and keep up with the calming, quiet voice as you talk to baby in the bath. We recommend using our kind and mild 2-in-1 hair and body wash. It is lovingly created specifically for babies and uses a mixture of aloe vera and chamomile extracts to soothe, calm and moisturise delicate skin.
3. Baby massage
A gentle baby massage can help your baby to wind down, settle and also help you bond. Pair our Body Cream and follow these baby massage tips from NCT tips. Our Body Cream is a bedtime essential for nourishing and protecting babies’ delicate skin. You may want to softly sing a lullaby as you massage them, to give further calming reassurance.
Always remember that all babies are different, and some need more help than others to fall asleep. Don’t put pressure on yourself to figure it out right away, be patient and work out the best routine for both you and baby.
